“What you are will show in what you do.”
Tomas A. Edison
Reflection: I agree with what Tomas A. Edison has quoted. What you do or what your habits are can identify who you are or at least who people expect you to be. If people respect you for the things that you do then you know that you are doing the right things. But if are not respected by others then you know that you are not doing the right things and that you should change those bad behaviors of yours. Your actions will always affect you 100% of the time. Every choice you make leads you to something whether it’s the same thing you’ve done for days or something you’ve never done before in your entire life.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 2

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part2
Voicing goals to someone else can help you make decisions and figure out your priorities. It can also help you judge whether you can do both—work together and study—successfully. To help answer this question, ask yourself:
·       Am I an organized person?
·       What kind of study habits do I have?
·       Do I make god use of my available time?
·       Will I be able to manage my schedule effectively if I take on a part-time job?
Think about the pros and cons of working. On the plus side, a job can teach you about commitment, time management and responsibility—and, of course, handling money. On the minus side, a job can cut into the time you have for sleeping, studying and socializing.

Balancing high-school and part-time work. Part 1

Balancing high-school and part-time work.
Part 1
Like many high school student, you may want—or need –to work part-time. Working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.
Important considerations
You have to weigh a number of factors when deciding whether to take on a part—time job. It’s important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you.
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of job you would like.

“If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it.”
Marcus Aurelius
Roman emperor from 161 AD to 180 AD
Reflection: I agree with what Marcus Aurelius has quoted. If you know something is wrong then why even doubt doing the right thing. If you know saying something would be negative or not true then you already know what is right and what is wrong. It shouldn't be so difficult for people to do and say the right things and yet people find it better to do something or say something wrong. Doing something always brings negative consequences towards you and even if you think you have escaped them, eventually you will realize that you haven’t after all. Same as when you say something not true, you think you get away with it but you haven’t. It doesn't even matter if what you want to say or do seems only a little wrong because if know there is at least something wrong with it just don’t do it.

Use college search to look up a specific college’s academic requirement to be sure you are on the right track to attend the college of your choice.
If you have concerns about your class schedule or progress in school, set up a meeting with your school counselor, teachers or adviser. There are many resources to help you with this process, and with achieving your personal, college and career goals. Without goals you meander all sorts of directions. Goals give you purpose, direction, enthusiasm, and passion for that which you really desire.Define your goals deliberately, evaluate your goals often and make changes as necessary, work hard to achieve your goals, and continue working hard until you actually do reach your goals.

“In any moment of my decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
Reflection: I think that Theodore Roosevelt has said a well thought Quote that everyone should think about. I agree with what Theodore said because it's always a good time to do something right. For example let's say you had a choice to make: Respect towards others OR Disrespect everyone.
Everyone knows that Respecting others is the right one but for some reason people still choose Disrespect because they fall to the idea that it would make them look "cooler" or "tougher". But the fact is that no one likes disrespect and eventually everyone won't care much about you, even those who thought you were "cool" or "tough" in the beginning. There is never a bad time to do what's right.

“To know what is right and not do it is the worst cowardice.”

-Confucius

Reflection: By definition cowardice means “lack of bravery “. The fact that people decide to do wrong even when they know what is right is a very poor quality of people. Therefore I agree with what Confucius has quoted because if you know what is right then do it. There is no need to change your mind and go for the bad decisions in life.

Social studies

You can better understand local and world events that are happening now by studying the culture and the history that has shaped them. Here is a suggested course plan:

·       U.S. History (two semesters)

·       U.S. Government (one semester)

·       World history and geography (one semester)

·       One additional semester in the above or other areas

Foreign language

Solid foreign language study shows colleges you’re willing to stretch beyond the basics. Many colleges require at least two years of study in the same foreign language, and some prefer more.

Learning a foreign language can be a challenge but is exciting. Repetition is the key to learning a language, and having conversations with others speaking the same language. Repetition in a fun way will build your skills thoroughly as you seek to master new languages.

“Have the courage to say no. have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life integrity.”

-W. Clement Stone

Reflection: I agree with what Clement Stone is saying in this quote. Having the courage to say no is showing that you have the courage to make your own decisions and that you can take charge for yourself. If you can face the truth, even when it can be a horrible one, you will know that you have the power to see the truth and say the truth for yourself and others. Doing the right thing can help you rid of those burdens that carry you down every day. If you can rid of those mistakes you made, take a chance and fix them

Science

Science teaches you to think analytically and apply theories to reality. Colleges want to see that you've taken at least three years of laboratory science classes. A good combination includes two semesters of each of the following science:

·       Biology

·       Chemistry or physics

·       Earth/space science

More competitive schools expect you to take four years of lab science courses. You can add two semesters in one of the following subjects:

·       Chemistry or physics (the science you don’t already study)

·       Advanced biology

·       Advanced chemistry

·       Advanced physics

Seattle Washington Sears 60 years later

Seattle Washington Sears 60 years later

Summary: in this story a man 60 years ago stole 20-30 dollars from a sears store. He had lived with that guilt for the past 60  years and now he has returned this money with much more in it he returned it with 100 dollars and a note that said “ during the late forty’s I stole some money from the cash register in the amount of 20-30 dollars. I want to pay you back. Here’s 100 dollars to put in your theft account.”

Reflection: What this man did, 60 years ago, was a bad idea and very idiotic. Instead of stealing the money the least he could have done was work for the money himself. He should of Known that it was a bad idea if he knew that he wasn’t going to be able to keep the money and not feel guilty afterwards. The fact that he paid Sears back, even more than he should have, is smart though. It was idiotic of him to steal it in first place but the fact that he paid back shows how whenever you make a bad decision, it will become a burden to you forever. But if you can do something to change what you did, just like him, you can release that burden off your back.

Selecting Your Courses
Part 2

The following subjects and classes are standard fare for success in high school and beyond, whether you plan to attend a four year or a two year college.
English (language arts)
Take English every year. Traditional courses, such as American and English literature, help you improve your writing skills, reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Math
You need algebra and geometry to succeed on college entrance exams and in college math classes—and in many careers. Take them early on. That way, you’ll be able to enroll in advanced science and math in high school, and show colleges you’re ready for higher-level work.
Most colleges look for students who have taken three years of math in high school, the more competitive ones require or recommend four years. Each school has its own program, but some of the courses typically offered are:
·       Algebra 1
·       Algebra 2
·       Geometry
·       Trigonometry
·       Calculus

'tis the set of the sail

‘Tis the set of the sail
Ella wheeler Wilcox 1916
But to ever mind there openeth,
A way, and a way, and away.
A high soul climbs the highway,
And the low soul gropes the low,
And in between on the misty flats,
The rest drift to and fro.

But to every man there openeth,
A high way and a low,
And every mind decideth,
The way his soul shall go.

One ship sails east,
And others west,
By the self-same winds that blow,
‘Tis the set of the sails
  And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
‘tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

Part 1
The academic rigor of your high school courses is an important factor in the college admission process. College admission officers see you high school courses schedule as a blueprint of your education. There looking for a solid foundation of learning that you can build on in college. To create that foundation, take a least five academic classes every semester. Start with the basics and then move on to advanced courses. Challenging yourself is part of what makes school fun; but you need to firm grasp of the fundamentals before going on to more advance work.

“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”

-Tomas Carlyle
Reflection: I agree with what Tomas Caryle is saying. If you have no goal then what are living for. Without a goal, you have no destination and you have nothing else to do with your life. Everyone has a path to follow but sometimes people decide to ignore it. With a goal you can accomplish many great things and fulfill your life with everything you’ve ever needed. Sometimes people think that if they just sit and wait eventually their goals will magically appear. But they won’t. You need to set your own goals. It can be difficult to find these goals but if you don’t try you’ll just become this huge blob of failure that takes up space from other people’s hopes and dreams. Everyone needs to find their meaning in life and they can start by setting up goals.

Getting the most Out of a Session

Here are some tips to help your group get the most out of each study session:
·
Decide what you’re going to do in advanced.

·       Prepare the session, so you can make the most of your time together.

·       Take turns teaching to reinforce your own knowledge.

·       Stick to the session topic.

By supplementing your individuals study with a study group, you can reinforce what you’ve learned, deepen your understanding of complex concepts, and maybe even make a few new friends. Remember that a friend is a person who encourages you to do your best and to achieve on q high level, one who pushes you to try a little harder and to be a little better. If someone pulls you down the wrong trails of life, them those people are not friends, (they are actually your enemies), and you must avoid them at all coast. Whoever said learning can be fun? Learning is enjoyable and exciting when you study with others.

the power of study groups part 3

The Power of Study Groups
Part 3
Guidelines for Getting a Group Together
Here are some guidelines for creating and running a study group: How many? Create a group of four to six people. In a larger group, it’s easy for someone to get left out and smaller groups can too easily get off track.
Who? Pick classmates who seem to share your interest in doing well academically. Look for people who stay alert in class, take notes, ask questions and respond to the teacher’s questions. Includes someone who understands the material better than you and can explain the concepts and someone who doesn't understand it as well, to whom you can explain the material.
Where? Hold study group sessions in a place that is free of distractions and that had room to spread out boos and notes. How long? Meet for no more than two to three hours at a time. Having a time limit helps the group focus. If you know you only have an hour, you’re more likely to stay on task.
When? Try to meet regularly, on the same day and time each week. Treating the study sessions as you would other activities helps you to keep to a schedule and ensures that everyone attends.

Group study offers other advantages in addition to gaining a deeper understanding of class material. These include the opportunity to: Reinforce note-taking. If your AP Biology notes are unclear, you can ask a member of your study group to help you fill the gaps. Share talents. Each person brings different strengths, such as organizational skills, the ability to stick to a task or a capacity for memorization.
Cover more ground. Group members may be able to solve a calculus problem together that none would have solved alone. Benefit from a support system. Members often have common goals, such as good grades. Each person’s work affects the other members, which results in making supportive of one another. Socialize. It’s more fun to study with others; the give-and-take makes it more interesting. And because it’s more fun, you spend more time studying!

“Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.”

-Albert A. Montapert
Reflection: No one can escape what comes after you do. You do negative things and negative consequences will come your way. But if you do something positive than positive consequences will come to you. People think that they can escape what comes after but eventually it always catches up with you. The fact that people think they can escape it is ridiculous because even after all the bad things they've done before they still can’t learn the fact that Karma always catches up with you even if it’s long after what you did.

Do the Reading
You need to do more than just read the chapters you are- you’re expected to understand them thoroughly. Here are some tips:
·       Don’t skim. Read all the materials carefully.

·       Break up difficult assignments into sections you can digest --- chapters, subsection, or even paragraphs.

·       Look up any word that you don’t understand.

·       Pause to think about whether you understand the material; ask questions in class about anything that is unclear.

·       Take notes instead of highlighting – this makes you think through and rephrase the key points.

·       Create a summary sheet of what you learned from each assignment you read.
